About
Founded in 1952 by choreographer Amalia Hernández, the Ballet Folklórico de México became Mexico’s best-known folkloric ensemble and helped codify the modern ballet folklórico style. The company has performed regularly at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, toured extensively (reportedly to 60+ countries), and served as a major cultural ambassador for Mexican regional dance under Hernández’s leadership until her death in 2000.
