Born in Mexico City on November 14, 1965, Carlos Miguel Prieto trained at Princeton and Harvard before devoting himself to a conducting career. He has held major posts including Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México (2007–2022), Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (2005–2023), and began his tenure with the North Carolina Symphony in the 2023–24 season. Prieto has led high-profile tours and recordings, earned a Latin Grammy (with Gabriela Montero and the Orchestra of the Americas) and was named Musical America’s 2019 Conductor of the Year.
