Formed in 1987 and led by Shock G (aka Humpty Hump), Digital Underground broke through with the 1990 album Sex Packets and the hit single "The Humpty Dance." The group introduced Tupac Shakur to a wider audience and became known for theatrical alter egos and distinctive cartoon-like artwork created by Shock G.
