Gold Star is the solo project of The Sister Ruby Band’s Marlon Rabenreither. The project began as another outlet for the prolific songwriter’s more introspective and sparse numbers with an interest in a more stripped-down sonic environment.
Gold Star makes use of rich acoustic guitar tones and warm harmonies with deconstructed Americana elements, along with Rabenreither’s distinctive vocals.
Gold Star’s self-titled debut EP - scheduled for release on February 19, 2013 - is a soft spoken foray into retrospective melancholy and intertwines intricate fingerpicking with ambient organ, Wurlitzer, and Steel Guitar.
Rabenreither looks through the prism of acoustic American music with an eye towards loss, and a divergent and unapologetic vulnerability.
