About
After a career as principal percussionist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, he transitioned to conducting and served as Music Director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra from 2015 to 2025. He has been Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since the 2020/21 season and was appointed Music Director of Madrid’s Teatro Real effective 2025/26. His recordings (including Messiaen's Turangalîla with the TSO) have earned wide critical acclaim, including a Juno Award in 2025.
