Jonah Matranga and his art are essentially unclassifiable. He's played as many house shows as he has huge festivals, and he brings the same thing regardless of where he’s playing — accomplished, ambitious songwriting, an abundance of wit and honesty, and an interest in making something new every time. Post-hardcore luminary, folk singer, DIY entrepreneur, genre-defying songwriter, indie visionary... There is no one quite like Jonah.
Jonah was in the hugely influential post-hardcore band Far, and went on to be in onelinedrawing, New End Original and Gratitude. He’s made highly influential, critically acclaimed records with budgets ranging from $300 to $300,000.
Jonah has influenced artists from Deftones to Blink-182, but he sounds nothing like either of them. He’s toured with artists from The Weakerthans to Sepultura, and garners respect from people all over the music world. Over the years, Jonah has collaborated in many ways with many people, from playing weird frisbee players in videos (Jimmy Eat World, 'Lucky Denver Mint'), to covering Sade and Jawbox with The Deftones. Jonah has contributed backup vocals to Thursday's album 'War All The Time'. He’s recently turned up on hip-hop records from Fort Minor and Lupe Fiasco. His first official solo full-length will be out in Summer 2007.
