Since 1994 Lisa Batiashvili has lived in Munich, where she studied with Ana Chumachenco at the city's Musikhochschule. In 1995, as the youngest-ever competitor, aged 16, she was awarded second prize at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki. In 2001, as one of the first BBC “New Generation Artists”, she made what BBC Music Magazine hailed as the “outstanding debut of the year” at the BBC Proms. In 2003, she won the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival's Leonard Bernstein Award and later received the Beethoven Ring Award from the Beethoven Festival of Bonn.
Managed by HarrisonParrott, her current concert schedule includes appearances with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (Esa-Pekka Salonen), Chamber Orchestra of Europe (Sakari Oramo), London Philharmonic (Yannick Nézet-Séguin), New York Philharmonic (Alan Gilbert), Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Marek Janowski), Verbier Festival Orchestra (Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos), and Vienna Symphony Orchestra (Yakov Kreizberg). In August, she will play the Berg Concerto with the Minnesota Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä at the BBC Proms.
Lisa Batiashvili plays the 1709 “Engleman” Stradivarius, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
