About
Talking Gong is a trio/album led by percussionist-composer Susie Ibarra and performed with flutist Claire Chase and pianist Alex Peh; the title piece was commissioned during Ibarra’s Kenneth Davenport Residency at SUNY New Paltz (2018). The album was recorded at Studley Hall, SUNY New Paltz in July 2020 and released January 22, 2021 on New Focus Recordings, drawing on Philippine gong traditions alongside composed and improvised contemporary music.
