Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata is undoubtably one of the most demanding works for piano and violin. Known for its explosive energy, technical difficulty, and sheer scale, this popular piece also inspired Leo Tolstoy’s eponymous novella in which the main character describes the sonata as “passionate to the point of obscenity.”Anna Handler, a former Dudamel Fellow and now, Conductor-in-Residence, takes the piano with the LA Phil’s new concertmaster Vineta Sareika for one of Beethoven’s most exciting mental and physical exercises.Also on the program is the “Kakadu” Variations, a playful work for piano, cello, and violin that transforms an opera tune through 10 increasingly imaginative movements.Come early and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine before the performance, starting at 6:30pm.
